New Sadler and Starlight Association web site To all SSOA members, New web site You may have noticed we now have a new web site (see www.sadlerandstarlight.co.uk ). The old one was very much a home-grown affair and had become increasingly difficult to maintain. The new site is very easy for us to create and edit pages and is hosted by a company very familiar with yachting. I hope you will take time to view the new site. You will notice there are new sections for each branch and a “yacht file” section, and the photo gallery and members’ area have improved layouts. However, we are missing content in some areas and I ask if you could provide some additional material for the web site. Showcase your yacht I’d like to create some additional pages linked from the Yacht File section to show each yacht in more detail. I therefore invite any members to showcase their yacht. It would be useful to have some photos e.g. at sea, deck/cockpit, below, and perhaps one of you and your yacht. Additionally, and to help to illustrate the yachts, it would be good to have some accompanying quotes about you and your sailing area/patterns, why you bought a Sadler/Starlight and what you think are the good qualities. I believe a good section showing of our yachts will help maintain the reputation and indirectly show they are a good choice and investment. More photos Many of the current photos are courtesy of the new Northeast branch. However, for the Yacht File I’m particular short of some good quality photos of the following yachts for S29, S34, S35, S39 and Barracuda. More technical articles We already have a considerable amount of information including an archive of over 50 magazine copies with a cross reference to specific technical articles. We also have some page from original owners’ manuals. I’m sure many members are interested in maintenance topics such as electrics, holding tank installation, prop changes, window replacement, recommended suppliers/specialists and more besides. Web sites can be a particularly good way of presenting technical articles allowing full use of colour photos and downloadable information sheets. If you would like to compile such an article including photos we’d like to hear from you. Help with editing the site The new site is easy to edit and anybody familiar with creating and editing a word document and managing their digital photos can quickly learn how to do it. The site no longer needs to be compiled and edited centrally; in fact it can be done from any computer with internet access (anywhere in the world). We will be providing easy access to branches and committee members to update pages directly if they wish. So if you have any interest or perhaps some journalistic flare, or perhaps a strong and well-informed technical interest in the yachts, then we’d like to hear from you. You may also consider helping the branch chairman update the branch pages with event news and reports, editing the photo gallery or helping edit the technical/members area. Please contact your branch chairman or a committee member. Access to members’ area (Omitted from web page version) Wrong email address? If you have received this email by mistake please accept our apologies. Please contact membership@sadlerandstarlight.co.uk to have this email address removed from our members register. Not received email? If you are reading this message on the web site and did not get an email from us, then we either do not have your email address or the one we have is incorrect. Please help us to correct the members register and email membership@sadlerandstarlight.co.uk with the correction. Best wishes and happy sailing, Robin Axford SSOA Web Site Editor
