About SSOA |
The Sadler and Starlight Owners Association (SSOA) was established in 1978. It operates for the benefits of its members and provides a community of interest for owners of Sadler and Starlight Yachts. Our aims are to draw together owners, supporters and potential owners; to arrange rallies, cruises, races, social and other appropriate events. We publish an annual magazine, year book and occasional newsletters. The SSOA seeks to keep things simple and we have a modest membership fee and typically arrange events at suitable sailing venues and yacht clubs. Around 2000 boats were manufactured in the UK between mid 1970’s and early 1990’s. A few of the later and larger types have been manufactured since then. Around 2003 a new manufacture which had acquired the brand started production of a new model. Around 30 of these have been built. The association has around 400 members boats currently registered but past records list over 1200 with a balanced turnover of leavers and new members in the UK and a few overseas. Probably around 60% of the membership is likely to keep their boat on the central south coast. The original Sadler range of yachts varies from 25ft to 45ft in length with a typical resale value of £10K for the oldest/smallest to £45K for the larger/latest. The larger Starlight yachts range from 35-39ft and used boats may sell at £70-100K. The new Sadler 290’s have a new purchase cost of circa £80K. The association has been traditionally run with a main committee centred on the South Coast with association branches covering the West Country, East Coast and more recently a new branch to cover North East Coast/East Scotland.
