Saturday 12th June. Barbecue on the Point at Walton Backwaters

We plan to meet on Stone Point at Walton Backwaters in the early evening for a barbecue, with members being asked to bring their own meat and beer. We will provide salads and a few other bits and pieces for everyone to share. We suggest that members anchor in a Hamford Water where it is quieter than the Twizle with better holding. Simon Hewitt has generously volunteered to assist in the organisation and will bring some barbecue equipment, and provided reasonable weather will bring a powerful tender to assists members who don't have suitable flubber with outboard getting to Stone Point from their boat.

If we are unfortunate with the weather we can divert to Titmash / Shotley / Levington. I suggest members attending provide me with your mobile phone numbers.

Saturday 25th September. Meeting at Burnham-on-Crouch.

Nigel Gardner kindly offered to organise a Sadler Meeting in Burnham on the 25th September.

Provisional details: This is the weekend of the Burnham Carnival, on Saturday Morning there will be the opportunity to join the Tucker Brown cup race, although this is for the Burnham berth holders visiting yachts would be very welcome to take part. This is family type racing, nothing steely, no spinnakers for example.

In the afternoon there is a barbecue in a marquee at the Marina.

The Burnham Carnival is on that Saturday, stalls and side shows in the High Street and along the quay from about midday onwards and the illuminated carnival procession sets off at 7.30pm

With so much going on we will not be organising a formal meal in the evening, but if people need ‘topping-up’ after the barbecue there is the Swallowtail restaurant at the marina and plenty in the town, Thai, Indian, Chinese, Mexican and English.

More details nearer the time, for now please mark the dates in your diary.

About
John & Ann Whitehead took over from John Feltham who retired after his sterling work in 2007.  John’s philosophy is … “if a number of people do a little bit for the Association it not only makes it easier for the local coordinator but also enriches the local group, because different individuals have different skills, contacts and intimate knowledge of their local area.”  John would be pleased to hear from you if you can help in some way.

Tides, Tides, Tides - most of us know you have to work the tides when sailing the East Coast. When trying to organize events which enable boats to attend from different places and directions it gets more challenging, but not impossible. However it does mean there are fewer really suitable dates to hold meetings afloat.  In 2008 events were held at the Swale/Harty Ferry, a joint meeting with the Westerly Association at Brightlingsea and an end of season dinner at Pin Mill.
